Nationally-recognized T1D biomedical engineer joins UF Diabetes Institute

Cherie Stabler, Ph.D., of the University of Florida College of Engineering, together with her team, were recently awarded a $4.9 million grant to engineer a microchip that will serve to house islets that produce beta cells. Her team hopes to use the microchips to improve the current amount of islets available to transplant into patients with diabetes, as well as screen pharmaceuticals and create beta cells from stem cells.
