On August 24th, the UF Diabetes Institute conducted on-campus screening at the Plaza of Americas in coordination with the STEPS (Screening, Treatment, Education, Prevention and Support) program. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition that most college students are never screened for, so dedicated screening efforts can make a critical difference in early detection, along with significantly reducing the incidence of DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis), a life-threatening medical emergency.
