We are proud to share that our very own Leeana Peters, PhD, and Jeremy Newman, PhD, are finalists for the 2025 the(sugar)science Challenge!
Their project focuses on alternative splicing and allele-specific expression as novel contributors to genetic risk in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). By integrating single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing datasets with eQTL and allele-specific expression data, they are identifying genetic drivers and potential therapeutic targets in pancreatic islets and lymph nodes.
This work highlights the innovative, data-driven research happening at the UF Diabetes Institute. We’re excited to see our team represented in this prestigious competition!
