What is the PANDA Study?

The Panda Study is based at the University of Florida and the Medical College of Georgia. The focus of the study is to determine the genetic risk of your child to develop type 1 diabetes, and then provide antibody and immunological screening for those children who are identified as being at genetic risk.

Who can participate?

Any child in the United States who is a relative of a person with type 1 diabetes, since they are at increased risk of developing diabetes.

What do I have to do as a participant?

You will be asked to read and then sign an “informed consent,” a paper that says that you understand the PANDA Study is analyzing blood samples to see if people are at risk to develop type 1 diabetes. Parents must give permission (and sign the informed consent) for their children who are under 18 years old.
