What is the Immune Function During Various Stages of Insulin Dependent Diabetes Study?
The purpose of this study is to learn more about the genetics and immune function of blood cells, diet, and viruses in insulin dependent diabetes. Collecting such information may lead to improved ways of treating insulin dependent diabetes as well as a possible cure or prevention.
Who can participate?
• People with established type 1 diabetes
• People with new onset type 1 diabetes
• 1st degree relatives of people with type 1 diabetes
• Individuals without type 1 diabetes of all ages
What do I have to do as a participant?
A blood sample will be drawn from you at the time you consent to the study by experienced personnel. The amount of blood to be drawn from you will be determined by age and body weight according to guidelines established by the National Institutes of Health. Regardless of age and/or weight never more than 75 cc (which is equivalent to about 5 tablespoons) will be drawn at any given time.
