Dr. Kenneth Cusi Wins 2015 College of Medicine Clinical Research Award

Congrats to Dr. Cusi! The 2015 recipient of the UF College of Medicine Faculty Research Award in Clinical Science. Dr. Cusi is the principal investigator of a number of ongoing clinical research projects. His grants focus on cutting-edge research in adult endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, both on clinical and basic research aspects related to the role of obesity and lipotoxicity in the development of Type 2 diabetes and its complications. Diamyd Medical contributes to JDRF initiative to increase understanding of Type 1 diabetes

Diamyd Medical, a Swedish medical research company, annouced that it will join a research initiative launched by JDRF aimed at increasing the understanding of the natural progression of type 1 diabetes in order to transform and accelerate drug development for the disease. Diamyd Medical will contribute data that will be made available to industry and academia partners through an open access database together with similar data from other late stage type 1 diabetes studies.

UF Health pharmacist wins cardiology award

Rhonda Cooper-DeHoff, Pharm.D., M.S., associate professor in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, has received the American College of Cardiology’s 2015 Distinguished Associate Award. Dr. Cooper-DeHoff’s research emphasizes achieving healthy blood pressure control through reduction of risk factors for hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. Read more.

UF to present at American Diabetes Association annual conference

Results from a UF diabetes research project have been selected for presentation at the upcoming American Diabetes Association 75th Scientific Sessions conference in June. Ashby Walker, Ph.D., Department of Health Outcomes and Policy, will present the study findings, entitled "Making a Difference with Behavioral Science." Read more.

Results from a UF Health pilot study have led to a new national trial investigating a combination treatment for individuals newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

New American Diabetes Association Grants Expand Diabetes Research

University of Florida researchers have received two new multi-year grants totaling nearly $1M in funding from the American Diabetes Association; enabling the launch of new scientific studies in Type 1 diabetes and diabetes-linked eye disease. Both awards seek to identify new therapies for early intervention and provide a foundation for future research. Read more.
