Congrats to Dr. Cusi! The 2015 recipient of the UF College of Medicine Faculty Research Award in Clinical Science. Dr. Cusi is the principal investigator of a number of ongoing clinical research projects. His grants focus on cutting-edge research in adult endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, both on clinical and basic research aspects related to the role of obesity and lipotoxicity in the development of Type 2 diabetes and its complications. Diamyd Medical, a Swedish medical research company, annouced that it will join a research initiative launched by JDRF aimed at increasing the understanding of the natural progression of type 1 diabetes in order to transform and accelerate drug development for the disease. Diamyd Medical will contribute data that will be made available to industry and academia partners through an open access database together with similar data from other late stage type 1 diabetes studies.

Rhonda Cooper-DeHoff, Pharm.D., M.S., associate professor in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, has received the American College of Cardiology’s 2015 Distinguished Associate Award. Dr. Cooper-DeHoff’s research emphasizes achieving healthy blood pressure control through reduction of risk factors for hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. Read more.

University of Florida researchers have received two new multi-year grants totaling nearly $1M in funding from the American Diabetes Association; enabling the launch of new scientific studies in Type 1 diabetes and diabetes-linked eye disease.
