Our Mission of Excellence

The Diabetes Center of Excellence at Shands at the University of Florida unites clinical care, research, education and advocacy to provide a comprehensive program to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. Our team of internationally recognized scientists strive each day to prevent, reverse, and ultimately cure diabetes. Endocrinologists in the pediatric and adult clinics are dedicated and committed to caring for people with diabetes with the latest discoveries in treatment modalities, emphasizing prevention and evidence-based diabetes care to enable patients to control their diabetes and improve their daily quality of life.  The education self-management programs teach patients to take control of their diabetes through better management of their eating and exercise habits and control their blood sugar, enabling them to lead healthy lives and take steps to avoid long-term diabetes-related complications. The Diabetes Center of Excellence is a leader in translational research aimed at preventing and ultimately reversing type 1 diabetes. The Center is home to multiple studies and clinical trials supported by the NIH, JDRF and other funding agencies.
