Former Gator and NBA player Corey Brewer supports his alma mater, The University of Florida, to support education and awareness programs for diabetes. Each year, Corey hosts his annual ‘Back2Back’ Instructional Basketball Camp in Gainesville, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the UF Diabetes Institute. He is also a member of the Institute’s Ambassadors Council, and established the Corey Brewer Foundation to help those who have been affected by the disease.
Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE) are involved in teaching people how to manage the disease. They are an invaluable asset to those who need to learn the tools and skills necessary to control blood sugar and prevent long-term complications. Typically a CDE is a nurse, dietitian, exercise physiologist, pharmacist, or social worker who has further specialized in diabetes education and care management.
