Corey Brewer Fight Diabetes Fund

Former Gator and current NBA player Corey Brewer is a champion of diabetes awareness on-and-off the court. He established the Corey Brewer Foundation to help prevent diabetes and improve the lives of people who have already been affected by the disease. Corey showcases his pride and passion for youth and sports every year when he hosts his annual ‘Back2Back’ Basketball Camp in Gainesville in early August. All proceeds from the camp benefit the UF Diabetes Institute. Corey is also a member of the Ambassadors Council. Be part of Corey’s mission year-round. To make a gift, please click here.

Because of the growing diabetic population, there is a major need for certified diabetes educators across the state of Florida. A certified diabetes educator (CDE) is a health care professional who is specialized and certified to teach people with diabetes how to best manage their condition. The CDE is an invaluable asset to those who need to learn the tools and skills necessary to control their blood sugar and avoid long-term complications due to hyperglycemia.

Typically the CDE is also a nurse, dietitian, exercise physiologist, pharmacist, or social worker who has further specialized in diabetes education and care management. Formal education and years of practical experience are required, in addition to a formal examination. Because of the financial components related to funding existing and new CDE’s, we have established this fund on their behalf. To make a gift, please click here.
