  • Title Town Type 1 Online Support Group. If you live in Gainesville or the surrounding areas and have type 1 diabetes, are the parent, spouse, or loved one of a person with type 1 diabetes, consider joining the Title Town Type 1 Online Support Group. The group’s founder calls it “a sweet spot for people with type 1 diabetes and their families to get connected and share experiences.” The group is currently meeting online, but there may be opportunities to meet “live” in the near future. You will need to sign up for Google Groups to become a member.
  • myGlu.org is an active type 1 diabetes community designed to accelerate research and amplify the collective voice of those living with T1D. On Glu, you will connect with people just like you, contribute to discussions, research, and learn from the wealth of rich information on the site…and that’s just the beginning.
  • TypeOneNation is JDRF’s vibrant social network for people with type 1 diabetes (T1D), their families and friends. The site is created for and powered by the type 1 community. Members of this diverse and lively community exchange information, answers and support. Anyone over 13 can sign up, connect with others and join the conversation.

Diabetes Blogs

There are more ways than ever for people with diabetes to stay connected and learn about research findings, new devices, and recently approved medications. While never a substitute for medical advice, the blogosphere has a lot to offer. Here are some links to get you started:

Diabetes Mine:
This blog, managed by Amy Tenerich, offers “a gold mine of straight talk and encouragement.” She tells it like it is and often has guest blogs from health care professionals.

Diabetes Daily:
Check out this site to find a vast community of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes sharing information, news, tips, menu ideas, and thoughts about daily management. See Diabetes Daily Voices.

dLife:
More Web site than blog, dLife was established to address the need for practical solutions to the 24/7 challenge of living with diabetes. The site has over one million visitors each month and loads of resources.

TuDiabetes:
This online community is affiliated with the Diabetes Hands Foundation, which seeks to connect people around the world to raise awareness about diabetes (in English and Spanish).
