Diabetes Companion - Free

Average rating from users on App Store: 3.5/5 stars

“The dLife Diabetes Companion is the most comprehensive diabetes mobile application and your ultimate diabetes partner.  Back by the resources of the #1 diabetes website, the dLife Diabetes Companion offers you access to the most essential tools you’ll need to manage your diabetes on the go.  Watch videos from the award winning dLife show, get expert answers to your questions, look up foods and healthy diabetes-friendly recipes, and track and manage your blood glucose levels any time, anywhere.”  (Courtesy of dLife)

Reviews (from the iTunes App store):
“It is clear-cut and easy to use.  Being a pumper, I’m disappointed there is no option for entering basal settings, AND that it only records down to 0.1 and not 0.05.  I too would like space for personalized notes/comments.  Another plus would be an integrated timer for rechecking lows after 20 minutes (allowing time for treating and 15 minute recovery).  Also a time to eat or test reminder would be nice.”

“This is by far the best diabetes (I’m Type 1) app I’ve used so far.  I like that it has a search function for a vast array of foods with carb counts.  The logbook layout is nice and easy to read when trying to discern patterns.  I haven’t tried to email results to anyone yet so we’ll see how that goes…”

WaveSense Diabetes Manager - Free

Average rating from users on App Store: 3.5/5 Stars

“Do you want to track your glucose results, carb intake, and insulin doses? The WaveSense Diabetes Manager can help.  Enter your information in seconds, review the data with convenient charts and graphs, and gain a new perspective on diabetes management.  Watch videos (courtesy of dLife) to learn about healthy eating, lifestyle choices, and hear from others who are living life with diabetes.” (Courtesy of AgaMatrix)

Reviews (from the iTunes App store):
“This app is very user friendly and easy to manipulate the data.  The graphs are by far the most appealing aspect of this app and I would give it 5 stars if only the log book was changed.  Most people with diabetes need to know the exact time of their blood sugar readings and this log book only puts your readings into a time (pre-lunch, post-dinner, etc.) block.”

“This app has a great interface, very organized, and you can email your entire log from different time frames to your doctor, etc.  It blows away Glucose Buddy and other free apps.”

Glucose Buddy - Free

Average rating from users on App Store: 4.5/5 Stars

Reviews (from the iTunes App store):
“Thank you! I can keep track of my blood sugar anywhere!”

“Needs A1c setting and needs weight about 341 to 400 BUT this program had helped me go from a 9.5 A1c two months ago to a 7.3; a reduction my endocrinologist said was “outstanding” and he likes the reports I fax as well”

GoMeals - Free

Average rating from users on App Store: 4/5 Stars

“GoMeals is three applications in one: a database full of nutritional values for your favorite foods and restaurant menu items, a food tracking tool to record your meals, and a restaurant locator with more than 175,000 restaurant locations. GoMeals allows you to search thousands of foods and dishes from popular restaurants, grocery stores, and all the items you have in your own kitchen to easily see the nutritional value (i.e. calories, carbohydrates, fats, protein, etc.) of the foods you eat. You also may track your daily food intake by saving food items to your “Today’s Plate” on the application’s calendar. You can monitor each day’s caloric intake, as well as the distribution of carbs, fats, and proteins. If you’re going out to eat, use the restaurant locator to easily find restaurants nearby and browse their menu for items with nutritional values that support the best choices for you. Everything you need to develop a more nutritious eating plan to help manage your blood sugar levels in one easy application.” (Courtesy of iTunes store)

Reviews (from the iTunes app store):

“This app is amazingly useful and convenient for those who need to watch their nutritional intake (such as Type 1 diabetics). This app helps not only for restaurant food but for general foods as well. Amazing indeed!”

“It’s so helpful and easy to use! The nice thing is that you don’t need wi fi to search for the food you are adding to your ‘plate’ which makes it very easy. I would definitely recommend it!”

Carb Counting with Lenny - Free

Average rating from users on App Store: 3.5/5 Stars

“Carbohydrate (Carb) counting is an essential skill for managing diabetes.  Carb counting allows children with diabetes to eat a variety of foods, just like other kids, and increases their sense of control and confidence in managing their diabetes.  For parents and caregivers, this is important in order to plan meals and help children maintain good blood sugar levels.” (Courtesy of Medtronic Diabetes)

Reviews (from the iTunes App store):
“This is a great app for children who have just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  It is great for educating them about carbs!”

“This is a fantastic application to help children understand carbohydrates.  Probably good for users of all ages!  Excellent idea!  Will be telling everyone I know about this application.”

Islet – Diabetes Assistant - $0.99

Average rating from users on App Store: 3.5/5 stars

“Islet 2.2 allows quick and easy recording of blood glucose readings, carbohydrate intake, insulin injections, and exercise, as well as email export and taking notes to any data entry.” (Courtesy of iAbetics)

Reviews (from the iTunes App store):
“I just love it.  It is so easy to use.  However, I wish that you would offer the choice to input increments of less than one unit (is 0.1, 3.2 and so on) for insulin.  Also would be great if there was an option for pump users.”

“I’ve tried about 4 diabetes trackers for the iPhone and this is the one I’ve stuck with.  Cleanest interface, best graphics, easiest to use.”
