Ryan Reed Debuts in NASCAR Nationwide Series

Ryan ReedNASCAR’s 2014 race calendar will feature Ryan Reed, an incredibly talented driver who never let his type 1 diabetes diagnosis slow him down. At age 17, Reed was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Driving the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes℠ Ford Mustang for Roush Fenway Racing, he will compete in over 30 NASCAR Nationwide Event Series races to further the cause for diabetes awareness and education.

Ryan is a leading figure in the American Diabetes Association’s Drive to Stop Diabetes℠ campaign and also an ambassador for UF Health Diabetes Center of Excellence serving on the Leadership Council.

Upcoming highlights will include competing in the annual NASCAR Daytona 500 on February 22, 2014, and the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 presented by Lilly Diabetes on March 15, 2014 at Bristol Motors Speedway. Reed will also host several off track health and wellness initiatives as part of the 2014 season.

“It is such an amazing feeling to be able to tie racing and diabetes awareness together,” said the 20-year-old, in an official RFR press release. “I just couldn’t ask for a better way to represent the diabetes community.”
