UF Genetics Institute Welcomes New Director, T1D Expert

Patrick J. Concannon, PhD, will serve as the next Director of the University of Florida Genetics Institute. Previously, Dr. Concannon served as Professor of Biochemistry and and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His research interests include cellular DNA damage responses, breast cancer genetics, and genetics of type 1 diabetes.

His expertise in type 1 diabetes genetics focuses on mapping and identifying the major susceptibility genes for the disorder.  He is also currently pursuing translational studies to connect risk genotypes with patient phenotypes.

We welcome Dr. Concannon to his new role at the University of Florida, and look forward to partnering with him in his mission to develop treatments for T1D that are preventive, in addition to supportive.
