College of Nursing receives grant to support education of future nursing faculty

The University of Florida College of Nursing was recently awarded an educational development grant that would allow one student to receive a $10,000 scholarship for financial support in doctoral studies.

Faculty members selected doctoral student Anastasia Albanese-O’Neill to receive the scholarship based on her leadership experience in diabetes education, treatment and advocacy, as well as her research interest and career goals as a potential nursing faculty member.

The Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program, which awards grants to 250 students nationally, promotes the educational development of new nursing faculty and encourages joint faculty appointments between schools and clinical affiliates.

Albanese-O’Neill will receive the $10,000 scholarship over a two-year period. During this time, UF will provide an additional matching grant. Albanese-O’Neill also will attend an American Association of Colleges of Nursing leadership development conference in Washington, D.C., that focuses on faculty role development, career and research planning and public policy advocacy.

The Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program, which is supported by the Jonas Family Fund at the Jewish Communal Fund, works to support the continuing development and education of new nursing faculty by increasing the number of doctoral-level faculty who will teach in nursing programs throughout the country.
