A recent study of 182 type 1 diabetes patients revealed that 10% of those who had the disease for 31 to 40 years still produced C-peptide and showed intact beta-cell functioning, suggesting insulin production may continue for decades after the disease’s onset. The findings in Diabetes Care suggest some patients with type 1 diabetes may benefit from treatments designed to preserve or enhance beta cell function, researchers said. Read more online.
