What is the Study?

The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between diabetes, noise, and hearing loss in persons 18-28 years of age with Type 1 diabetes.

Who can participate?

  • Subjects (18-28 years of age) with type 1 diabetes and no known congenital (hearing loss since birth) hearing loss nor current external or middle ear infection
  • Persons without diabetes for comparison of the same age and criteria indicated
  • Non-smokers only

What do I have to do to participate? 

The majority of testing will involve sitting in a comfortable chair and listening to sounds with the option of watching a closed captioned movie. The duration of testing will take approximately 2.5 hours.  Subject will be compensated for their participation.
